Meet Hanna, Employer Branding Expert at METRO. Since joining as a graduate trainee in People & Culture, she has taken on different roles across HR and is now part of the global employer branding team, where she helps shape how METRO is experienced as an employer, externally and internally.

What has your journey at METRO looked like?

I joined METRO AG in 2023 as a Graduate Trainee in the People & Culture area, which gave me the opportunity to really get to know the different areas within HR.

After the trainee programme, I worked for about a year as a P&C Consultant, where I gained experience in more generalist HR topics.

Now I am part of the global employer branding team, and I am responsible for our Ambassador Programme, which has honestly become a real passion project for me!

What were some key moments or opportunities that shaped your journey at METRO?

Early in my journey, I spent three weeks in three of our stores in Hamburg. It gave me a completely different perspective on the business and helped me better understand our operations and colleagues in the stores.

What’s something you’ve learnt at work that has really stuck with you?

How important it is to genuinely care about what you do. I believe you create the biggest impact when you’re truly passionate about your topics, the people you work with, and the industry you’re part of.

If you look back at your journey so far, what is the one thing you are most proud of?

Always staying open to new experiences and stepping out of my comfort zone. Looking back, saying yes to opportunities and challenges helped me learn a lot and grow both personally and professionally.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I love travelling and discovering new restaurants and coffee spots. I’m also really passionate about cooking, baking and hosting people at home - I just enjoy bringing people together. Besides that, I’m interested in creative topics like social media, branding, design and organising things, so a lot of my interests outside of work actually overlap with what I enjoy professionally as well.
